                                                                   Shame by Andy Mineo

The song Shame was created by Andy Mineo, a native New York rapper, in the year 2018, and released in America. As a die-hard Andy Mineo fan, I listened to the entire II: The Sword album the day it came out. But I distinctly remember laying in bed late at night when this song came on as the close to the album. Near the beginning, it was beautiful, catchy, and poetic. I remember smiling at how good it sounded in my headphones, but then my smile faded as the song reached it's halfway mark. The rest of the song left me quiet, with a lump in my throat.

Not only that, but many people online feel the same way I did. In the public chat forum at christianchats.net, many people shared their testimonies on how they related to Andy's lyrics and proceeded to gush on their intense love for God and their deep thankfulness for Jesus' sacrifice on the cross for them. It was really really cool for me to read this and relate to so many people who had the same emotional response to the song, and how after listening to it they had the same thoughts that I did. The website Rapzilla also gave some insight into the song, saying that Shame was a way for Andy Mineo to relate to his audience, and be transparent about his insecurities in his faith, and his past struggles and addictions.

Some things that made the song musically marvelous were rhythm, dynamics, and harmony. There was a very pronounced slow down, or ritardando, near the transitional section of the song that chilled out the listener and prepared them for the very deep and harmonious melodies near the latter half of the song. But then at the very end, there was an extreme and bone-chilling crescendo that leaves you breathless, wondering how sound that intense can come from the volume you had your phone set at.

  1. This is a really great choice for a song Shadrach! I think Andy Mineo is realy talented at bringing a strong message to his music. In his song he's speaking of real life struggles that many people have to deal with, which makes it super relatable. He also is speaking from personal experience, which makes the song that much more powerful. Awesome post.
